The Joys of June

June 30,2015

Can you believe it, another month has whizzed by us. I had hoped the march of time would uncharacteristically  slow down somewhat.  Just to please me..... is that asking too much?!

I love the long evenings with sunsets  at 9-9:30pm and early sunrises around 5:30 am.... or so I am told!! There is something energizing about being out in the sunshine, and I have been taking full advantage of it to get caught up with garden work. It is only fair to add, at this point, that I refer to sitting on the deck and sipping a cold drink as "working on a suntan", but work, none the less.

Some of the weeds, aka, dandelions have come and gone and are being replaced by various and sundry others of their ilk, but upon closer inspection, the lowly dandelion has a beauty and symmetry to it, even in it's dying days.

Closer still, I have to marvel at the intricacy of the fragile seeds and wings, suggestive of a spider webs.

What June would be complete without the obligatory school closings and graduations.  We have four grandchildren progressing in their education  and we are proud as peacocks of all of them.  Our oldest, Rebecca, is going from middle school to high school in September.

One of  the flowers that display their incredible blooms in June is the beautiful Rhododendron. This one from my son's garden is no exception

Lastly, as I have stated before, I love sunsets and sunrises ( when I see them ) and was out driving in our neighborhood this week and saw this setting sun. Hope you enjoy it as well.

Cheers to July, and enjoy every minute of every day.

  2. Love your pictures. We always used to say dandelion seeds were fairy parachutes. I love to see dandelions in flower against the green grass. So very pretty.

  5. Congrats to your granddaughter.

Dandelions are so interesting to look at. They seem simple but are very complex.

    1. Thanks, Patrick, It's weird, eh, that a simple weed can be so complex. ( there is probably a life lesson there, but it's way beyond me.) lol.

  9. I would like time to slow down also. Seems like the older I get, the faster it goes. Your photos are amazing. Do you have a macro lens? I love the shot of the dandelion, and the view of your lake makes me want to be there. A grand in high school! Now life will be even busier for you.

  13. I agree working on a suntan is hard work, especially if you're like me and all that work turns to freckles and red skin but still I try. Love your article and your photos. Congrats on your beautiful granddaughter - they definitely grow up way too fast.
