Mystery Mosaic

February 24,2015

Once upon a time.... OK, this is not a fairy tale... but it is a true tale and it just seemed natural to start like that.  I'll start again.

One day about  4 months ago we were out shopping, I  remember distinctly because shopping is not one of my fun things to do, just can't recall the date. Anyway, we went about our buying business and returned home to find a shopping bag hooked over the handle of our door knob.  I love surprises, but knew I had missed a visitor.  With conflicting emotions  I quickly  picked the bag up and hurried inside.

The parcel was a bit on the heavy side so knew it was not a photo album but upon closer inspection I found a piece of hardwood aprox 30cm x 30cm ( 12" x12").  Hmmm, the plot thickens.

Naturally the first thing I did was turn it over, and lo and behold  it was a beautiful glass mosaic  firmly held in place with  mortar .

First part of mystery solved, now to find the benefactor. Picture me digging through shopping bag, returning outside to look for lost "note", and finally looking on reverse side again to see if I missed an inscription. I actually was waiting for my hubby to enlighten me as I thought he had something to do with it. He assured  me otherwise.

I asked  friends and neighbors if they had any knowledge of the creator of this lovely item. No one had even an idea who it was.  Time flew by, as is it's habit, especially so as the Christmas holiday was approaching. I  sat the gorgeous mosaic on a table in our family room and hoped someone would divulge some info regarding its origin.

Fast forward to a week or so ago.  While perusing  Face Book..... I know, I should not waste my time like that, but I indulge myself in my retirement,,,,, I noticed a "reply" to my daughter-in-law referencing a "mosaic".    Hallelujah!  Turns out it was for my son and his family and made for them as a remembrance their baby son, our grandson, who we lost 4 years ago.

Mystery solved. Thanks to my sister-in-law, Shari, who made this for them. They are most appreciative.

Here are a couple of photos showing the detail and the final result.  Thanks again, Shari!

I love the colors in the glass

I can only imagine the work involved in arranging theses pieces.

Aww, a little angel to remember our Little Angel..

    1. I bet you would do a lovely job, pixiedusk,! I don't know where the lady who made this got her material. She now lives on the Virgin Islands, but was in West Va. before that, so far be it from me to guess where they come from. Good luck!

    1. I thought it was too Kathy. I felt badly that it took me so long to find out who the benefactor is, but "better late then never"!
