Wordless Wednesday ~ w Linky

Wednesday October 30,2013

With Halloween being so close I just had to post something related to the time.  I had an interesting experience this week that made me think... not always an easy task! LOL! It is all about perspective.

This cookie jar depicting a well known (at least to those of my generation) nursery rhyme has been in my family for many, many years and I used it as a decoration for this time of year.
Here's the thing.... when the nursery rhyme was  related to our granddaughter  her response was shock!
She presented a whole new perspective on an old....previously loved childhood rhyme. The full story can be viewed here. I would love  to hear your take on it.

    2. It is older than I am..Ha, not going there...and belonged to my mother. It's pottery and it made it difficult to "sneak" cookies!

  10. Ha, yeah, that can be a disturbing-sounding rhyme! I think it must be a play on words, "keeping" someone to mean affording to pay for their care vs. storing someone. I can see how that gets lots in translation over the years, especially to young ears!

    1. I think you are right,Lauren, over the years a lot of the original words.... and thoughts...get kind of scrambled!

  11. I think today's little ones must listen a lot better than we did when they're read to. I'll I remember was, words going with a rhyme, that sounded kind of neat. But the nursery rhymes 'are' a little gruesome when you actually listen to them.

  12. I has a unique look to it. Something to keep for generations, I'd think ... perhaps to pass it along with the stories of the past.
