With Halloween being so close I just had to post something related to the time. I had an interesting experience this week that made me think... not always an easy task! LOL! It is all about perspective.
This cookie jar depicting a well known (at least to those of my generation) nursery rhyme has been in my family for many, many years and I used it as a decoration for this time of year.
Here's the thing.... when the nursery rhyme was related to our granddaughter her response was shock!
She presented a whole new perspective on an old....previously loved childhood rhyme. The full story can be viewed here. I would love to hear your take on it.
Wow, what a cool old cookie jar. I've never seen anything like it.
ReplyDeleteIt belonged to my mother and although it has been broken it is still in good shape for a decoration,
DeleteVery cool jar! Peter pumpkin eater is really shocking if you think about it, haha :) So cool!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how a different generation sees things... I can relate now that it has been brought to my attention. Tks & nice to see you.Ms Bennett.
DeleteVery neat and awesome family keepsake.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too, Mrsteeh! Glad you stopped by.
DeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteHey, Tammi, I thought so too.
DeleteWhat an unusual jar
ReplyDeleteHave a jartastic week ;-)
I edited your link to this one on my Linky as you had pointed it to last weeks :-)
DeleteIt is older than I am..Ha, not going there...and belonged to my mother. It's pottery and it made it difficult to "sneak" cookies!
DeleteWhat a fantastic keepsake
ReplyDeleteCertainly fills the "different" genre, right, Julie?
DeleteBeautiful cookie jar! Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteNow all it needs is some home made cookies to fill it, Judy!
DeletePeter, Peter Pumpkin eater...love that jar!
ReplyDeleteMe too, Monica. Normally it sits on top of my cupboards in the kitchen, but brought it down for this occasion.
DeleteThis is a very cool cookie jar!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stoppiing by Trisha.
DeleteWhat a cool cookie jar!
ReplyDeleteAs I said to Judy, Sarah, it just need real cookies in it!!
DeleteHa, yeah, that can be a disturbing-sounding rhyme! I think it must be a play on words, "keeping" someone to mean affording to pay for their care vs. storing someone. I can see how that gets lots in translation over the years, especially to young ears!
ReplyDeleteI think you are right,Lauren, over the years a lot of the original words.... and thoughts...get kind of scrambled!
DeleteI think today's little ones must listen a lot better than we did when they're read to. I'll I remember was, words going with a rhyme, that sounded kind of neat. But the nursery rhymes 'are' a little gruesome when you actually listen to them.
ReplyDeleteI have given up trying to figure it out.... I'll just chalk it up to "a different time".... tks for stopping by!
DeleteI has a unique look to it. Something to keep for generations, I'd think ... perhaps to pass it along with the stories of the past.
ReplyDeleteHopefully it will survive for a bit longer Silvia, and be the source of many tales!!
