A-Z Blogging Challenge -"T"

Hi and welcome to my site!

As a very young girl I lived with my paternal grandmother for three formative years. Being an enthusiastic teacher and lover of words, she invariably had quotations written all over the house... literally. On the backs of cupboard doors, on calendars, napkins or wherever she happened to be.  With this in mind I am finding the authors, in alphabetical sequence, of many of her favorite quotations and am adding some of those that are special to my family as well.  Hope you enjoy!

                                                                              "T"

Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 – April 21, 1910), better known by his pen name  Mark Twain, was an American author and humorist.  He is most noted for his novels, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer(1876), and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885),the latter often called "the Great American Novel". After toiling as a printer in various cities, he became a master riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River, before heading west to join Orion. He was a failure at gold mining, so he next turned to journalism. While a reporter, he wrote a humorous story, "The Celebrated Jumping Frogs of Calaveras County", which became very popular and brought nationwide attention. His travelogues were also well-received. Twain had found his calling.
Twain was born during a visit by Halley's Comet and he predicted that he would "go out with it" as well. He died the day following the comet's subsequent return.

Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu (26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997), more commonly known as Mother Teresa, was a roman Catholic  nun of Albanian  ethnicity and Indian citizenship, who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India, in 1950. For over 45 years, she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying, while guiding the Missionaries of Charity's expansion, first throughout India and then in other countries. Following her death, she was beatified  by Pope John Paul II and given the title "Blessed Teresa of Calcutta..She was the recipient of numerous honours, including the  Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work.

Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.

If  you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one.

I want you to be concerned about your next door neighbor. Do you know your next door neighbor?

  1. Leave it to Mark Twain to say, "When your friends begin to flatter you on how young you look, it's a sure sign you're getting old." I think he was born old!!
I especially love Mothers Theresa's "If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one."
Feeding the world, one person at a time.
    Love it.

  3. Mark Twain, a classic and a great choice for "T". I love the first quote you have of his. Reading his books are a rite of passage when you are growing up.
Mother Teresa, she is in a class all by herself. The first quote of hers that you have is so true. If you have the means it's easy to offer food or money, carry on with your own life, not be inconvenienced and feel you've done a good thing. It's much more difficult to give of your self and your time to make someone who has nobody feel loved, wanted, cared for and not alone.
