A-Z Blogging Challenge "R"

Hi and welcome to my site!

As a very young girl I lived with my paternal grandmother for three formative years. Being an enthusiastic teacher and lover of words, she invariably had quotations written all over the house... literally. On the backs of cupboard doors, on calendars, napkins or wherever she happened to be.  With this in mind I am finding the authors, in alphabetical sequence, of many of her favorite quotations and am adding some of those that are special to my family as well.  Hope you enjoy!

                                                                                     "R"

Daniel Irvin "Dan" Rather, Jr. (born October 31, 1931) is an American journalist and the former news anchor for the CBS Evening News.He is now managing editor and anchor of the television news magazine  Dan Rather Reports.  Rather was anchor of the CBS Evening News for 24 years, from March 9, 1981, to March 9, 2005. He also contributed to CBS's  60 Minutes. Rather became embroiled in controversy about a disputed news report involving the 2004 U.S. presidential election and subsequently left CBS Evening News in 2005, and he left the network altogether after 43 years in 2006.

A tough lesson in life that one has to learn is that not everybody wishes you well.

An intellectual snob is someone who can listen to the William Tell Overture and not think of The Lone Ranger.

( I think this one is particularly funny! Admit it, you are humming it to yourself right now aren't you?!)
                                         -----------------------------------------

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt ( October 11, 1884 – November 7, 1962) was the First Lady of the U.S.from 1933 to 1945. She supported the New Deal policies of her husband, distant cousin Franklin D. Roosevelt, and became an advocate for  civil rights. After her husband's death in 1945, Roosevelt continued to be an international author, speaker, politician, and activist for the  New Deal Coalition . She worked to enhance the status of working women, although she opposed the  Equal Rights Amendment because she believed it would adversely affect women.
Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

Friendship with ones self is all important, because without it one cannot be friends with anyone else in the world.

  3. I loved the William Tell Overture quote, and have to admit, it is quite true. And the one about not everyone wishing us well...bittersweet but so true also.

Eleanor Roosevelt... I wish we could have been friends. Can you imagine visiting with such a feisty and intelligent woman. Much admiration for her.

    Good "R" choices. :-)
