A-Z Blogging Challenge "L"

Hi and welcome to my site! 

As a very young girl I lived with my paternal grandmother for three formative years. Being an enthusiastic teacher and lover of words, she invariably had quotations written all over the house... literally. On the backs of cupboard doors, on calendars, napkins or wherever she happened to be.  With this in mind I am finding the authors, in alphabetical sequence, of many of her favorite quotations and am adding some of those that are special to my family as well.  Hope you enjoy!

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is the spiritual leader of Tibet. He was born on 6 July 1935, to a farming family, in a small hamlet located in northeastern Tibet.  At the age of two the child, who was named Lhamo Dhondup at that time was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso.  The Dalai Lamas are believed to be manifestations of Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and patron saint of Tibet.  Bodhisattvas are enlightened beings who have postponed their own nirvana and chosen to take rebirth in order to serve humanity.

 If you can, help others; if you cannot do that, at least do not harm them.

All major religious traditions carry basically the same message, that is love, compassion and forgiveness the important thing is they should be part of our daily lives.

Clive Staples Lewis (29 November 1898 – 22 November 1963), commonly referred to as C. S. Lewis and known to his friends and family as "Jack", was a novelist, poet, academic, medievalist,  literary critic, essayist and lay theologian  from Belfast, Ireland. He is known for both his fictional work, especially ,The Chronicles of Narnia  and nonfiction,such as Mere Christianity and The Problem of Pain. Lewis and fellow novelist J.R.R. Tolkien were close friends. Both authors served on the English faculty at Oxford University He died on the 22 of November,1963—the same day that U.S. President John F.Kennedy was assassinated, and the same day another famous author,Aldous Huxley died.

Experience: that most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God do you learn.

 

Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.
