A-Z Blogging Challenge "G"

Hi and welcome to my site!
As a very young girl I lived with my paternal grandmother for three formative years. Being an enthusiastic teacher and lover of words, she invariably had quotations written all over the house... literally. On the backs of cupboard doors, on calendars, napkins or wherever she happened to be.  With this in mind I am finding the authors, in alphabetical sequence, of many of her favorite quotations and am adding some of those that are special to my family as well.  Hope you enjoy!

                                                                     "G"

Adam Lindsay Gordon (1833-1870), poet and horseman, was born on 19 October 1833 at Fayal, Azores, the only son of Adam Durnford Gordon, a retired captain of the Bengal cavalry and teacher of Hindustani, and his wife Harriet Gordon, who were cousins.

This  particular quotation  has been repeated many times by members of my family as it helps us to stay grounded and get our priorities straight. It is another that was handwritten  by my grandmother,51 years ago,and given to my Dad.

“Life is mostly froth and bubble, Two things stand like stone, Kindness in an others trouble, Courage in your own”.

Mahatma Gandhi became one of the pivotal figures, if not the main figure, in India's  history in the Twentieth Century. Along with Jinnah and Nehru, Gandhi shaped India's history up to its independence in 1947.
Mahatma Gandhi was born in 1869 and he died in 1948.

An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.

The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.

  3. I wonder why certain people see kindness as a weakness? What sort of upbringing did they suffer?
